Under the Lights – FIR Main | 3.31.12

Yes, this is 30+ days late… but it happens. The first time I took photos at a track event was at Firebird International Raceway – Main -08’. It was a time for firsts – it was also my first time there. I was there with a 500mm lens. I was seated at the top of the bleachers and I was still able to get nice tight photos. Yes, this sounds like a very lazy way to take photos but it worked. When I was going over the photos, I realized that there was something I liked about those photos. I don’t know if this was due to the lens, the track environment or a combination of both.

Phil’s EG | PIII Hmmkay

Two Fridays ago I was at ICB helping Matt with some photos. As I was taking a photo I saw Simon pulling in, Paul then drove up followed shortly later by Phil. It seems ICB is the place to be and somehow we crash Matt’s place all the time. We haven’t seen Phil in a while and he gives us an update on his build.

Meet Jasmine

After Mike, Bryan and the guys from JDM Chicago leave, Paul and I decide to go for a walk south of Pier 30. During the walk Paul tells me there is a small chance of the DC2R making an appearance for us to shoot it. During the next few hours, we get constant updates from Anh.

Waiting Games

I hear a noise but I just can’t place it. My alarm is going off and I can’t find my phone. I find my phone. I switch off the alarm and the time showing is 3:00 a.m. I know I can’t slack-off and take my sweet time. I haven’t packed a thing and I have to get ready and be out the door in 2 1/2 hrs. Somehow I manage to accomplish this feat and by 5:30 a.m. I am rolling with Paul to Sky Harbor on our way to SFO to attend WEKFEST IV.

WEKFEST SFO | Part One

Sunday morning we got up early… still recovering from what was a long Saturday taking photos and being woken up in the middle of the night by the pizza guy. I thought for sure Paul was going to get stabbed but then again, Paul looked like he was getting ready to beat that guy for waking him up. A quick cab ride took us down to Fort Mason where WEKFEST IV was about to go down. We were both happy to be hauling less equipment than day before but we still had quite a handful. After a quick walk, we met Anh and we were soon walking to Pier 3, where we would set up camp.

IFO | Tucson

I am driving on the freeway, its 6:55 a.m. and I get a text from Matt asking me if I am close. Two things pop in my head: I have the day off and yet I am up and driving somewhere super early this morning. Two, Matt and Nolan are ready and according to somewhat reliable sources… this is a first.

75 Minutes…

Its Friday night, I decide im going to crash early as tomorrow is a big day. Tomorrow is Simon’s first race, sure he has been on track with his new car before… but not in a race. This is not any race either, it’s a 75 minute enduro… when this guy does it he does it big! My car is all packed with my basic track goods I take to every event for the 2 days of pure bliss.

Battle at San Tan

Are you guys going to make it to the San Tan show? We were asked this so many times before the Honda vs. Subaru San Tan Car Show. I am trying to remember as to why I was not able to make it last year and I can only think it was work related. As the day approached I was getting very excited about this event. Sure it may not have the flair and volume as other events we have gone to but there is one thing that was special. It was in our backyards. And at the end of the day, we wouldn’t have to catch a flight or drive 300 + miles to sleep in our own beds.
